Huish began in 1936 when Bert Huish opened a small canvas shop in Provo, Utah. He started with one sewing machine and a simple vision. Create products that were durable, functional, and built to last.
He saw potential in canvas for more than just awnings. That single shop quickly expanded into tarps, tents, banners, boat covers, and industrial fabric solutions. In 1945, the business moved to South State Street in Orem, where it still stands today.
Bert’s son, John, soon became an essential part of the business. Together, they added draperies, stage curtains, and premium patio furniture to complement their shade products. As the company grew, so did its impact on the local community.
After Bert’s passing in 1976, John carried the legacy forward. His son, J. Todd Huish, later took the lead and helped usher in a new era. Today, Todd’s sons, Jason and McKay, continue the work their great-grandfather began, now four generations strong.
What started as a single sewing machine in a small shop has grown into a trusted name across Utah. The commitment remains the same. Build it right. Treat people well. And help families create spaces they love to live in.

"I own a restaurant in Orem and needed my seats repaired, the vinyl cushion backs. I called and Mac came and talked to me and measure and start a bid. They told me it would be about 7 weeks with how busy they were and how crazy and hard it is right now to get supplies because of Covid. After placing my order and a deposit, they were dang near perfect with timing. They came and installed and everything looks perfect. Great family business. Honest guys. Great guys to work with. "We needed sun shades for the west facing patio and balcony that would allow us to enjoy our balcony and ground floor patio when the sun was setting. The width of the balcony and patio required custom made shades. Also, we were considering some kind of awning for the shop that is adjacent to the patio to keep rain and snow away from the door. Before going to Huish, we were looking at other options at Home Depot or Lowes. We were not happy with what we saw. Also, outdoor installation was not offered by these companies.While still researching what options we had, Huish was recommended to us by a good friend who had Huish install their sun shades. The friend was very happy with their shades and they had had them for some time. We decided to look into their product and determined their product was superior to what was offered by other stores and worth the extra cost. A better selection in colors and better installation system. They also did the installation. Their work is warrantied for many years. We ordered sun shades shades and had a custom metal awning installed above the shop door which looks beautiful. So far we are very happy and satisfied with the product and service we got."

"Mac Huish was extremely helpful with planning our awning for our backyard. He came to the house and discussed types of awnings, size and look and gave me brochures to choose colors. He worked up a mock awning on the photo of our home and was always very prompt to answer emails and questions. The installers were also very respectful and skilled and had the awning hung in about an hour. The awning is very sturdy and basically maintenance free. It looks amazing and adds nice interest to the home beside shading and covering the back doorway. We are very pleased with it and we’re very happy with Huish awnings! I highly recommend using them!"
